Hygiene - the HQ-Label

Hygiene comes first, because even the most beautiful permanent makeup won’t have the desired effect if an infection occurs afterward due to poor cleanliness! But how can I be sure that the studio I choose meets the necessary hygiene standards?

On January 1, 2006, legal regulations came into effect setting requirements for the materials used in tattooing, piercing, and applying permanent makeup.

These regulations are included in the ordinance of the Federal Department of Home Affairs (EDI). Based on these rules, experts and the Federal Office of Public Health (BAG/BLV Switzerland) developed guidelines that are now recommended for use.

Our inspection companies conduct these checks, and certificates are issued once the studio passes the inspection.

Certificate HQ-Label  (Hygiene-Quality Label)

The HQ Label was developed and approved in collaboration with the Federal Office of Public Health (BAG/BLV) and various professional associations. As a result, this certificate is also recommended by the BAG/BLV.

The hygiene course is a prerequisite for obtaining the HQ Label.

The course provides the foundation for obtaining the Hygiene Quality Label (HQ Label) for studios. This label represents the highest certification for professionals such as PMU stylists and cosmeticians. It is awarded by the respective professional associations and is subject to annual inspections.

The HQ Label is also a prerequisite for earning the certification of the association exam to become a certified Dermapigmentologist® and a certified medical Dermapigmentologist®.

Hygiene Course: Hygiene is a top priority.

Guidelines as a Seal of Quality

The Federal Office of Public Health (BAG/BLV) Switzerland, together with professional associations, developed nationwide recommended guidelines for “Good Practice” in the fields of tattooing, permanent makeup, piercing, and related practices. These guidelines cover the requirements for operating a business, including hygiene standards, product and infrastructure specifications, as well as emergency measures. Link to the guidelines:

Reporting Obligations and Hygiene Inspections

Since May 2017, it has been mandatory in Switzerland for all permanent makeup studios to register with the responsible cantonal food authority. As a consumer, we recommend that you check the registration certificate. This ensures that the studio is officially registered and compliant.
